(Lancaster / USA) – The US company Element Resources Ltd. wants to build a large plant to produce renewable hydrogen in the Californian city of Lancaster. According to the information, the future location is less than 160 kilometers from the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach. The aim is to supply end consumers throughout the greater Los Angeles area.
The facility, which is scheduled to begin commercial operations in early 2025, will power Element Resources' electrolyzers with solar energy. The project will create around 250 jobs and 36 permanent positions during the construction phase.
Anchor project for renewable energies
The company will produce 20.000 tons of renewable hydrogen annually in the first phase. The plant is also one of the anchors in the “Eastside Overlay” of the city of Lancaster, where other clean energy projects are being located. According to city mayor R. Rex Parris, Lancaster is building robust hydrogen production capacity to enable regional decarbonization.
The city of Lancaster, with a population of around 170.000, has already reached a number of agreements to exploit the potential of clean hydrogen. That's what the Californian wants there Heliogen, Inc. produce sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) together with Dimensional Energy. Heliogen's “HelioHeat” technology with concentrated solar energy (CSP) will be used.
