H2 Mobility Deutschland GmbH & Co.KG has opened the 18th hydrogen filling station in North Rhine-Westphalia in Dortmund. Bavaria follows with 17 stations. There are a total of 83 H2 filling stations in Germany. The plan is to increase this number to 2020 by the end of 100. According to the company, one station each will be opened in Erfurt (Thuringia) and Meerane (Saxony) in May.
According to the company, the focus of the expansion is, among others, the metropolitan regions of Rhine/Ruhr and Rhine/Main, as well as Hamburg, Berlin, Munich, Nuremberg, Stuttgart and important connecting roads. There are already H2 filling stations in the Ruhr region in Essen, Mülheim, Duisburg, Herten, Ratingen and Wuppertal. The new location in Dortmund is in the north of the city center at the Shell Station Schützenstrasse. The system holds around 200 kilograms of hydrogen and is funded by the European Commission through the Fuel Cells and Hydrogen 2 Joint Undertaking (FCH 2 JU) in the Hydrogen Mobility Europe (H2ME) project.
H2 Mobility is a consortium of Air Liquide, Daimler, Linde, OMV, Shell and Total that is building a hydrogen infrastructure in Germany.
