Berlin. The Left parliamentary group in the Bundestag wants to know in a small inquiry what ecological consequences and costs can be expected from the hydrogen economy (Bundestag printed matter 19/21451). The politicians are inquiring about the hydrogen requirements for the years 2025, 2030 and 2050, broken down into individual usage sectors. The MPs also ask what proportion of the hydrogen demand in 2025, 2030 and 2050 should be covered in which sectors of the Federal Republic as “grey hydrogen”, “green hydrogen”, “blue hydrogen” and “turquoise hydrogen”.

In addition, the federal government should explain in which states German experts are looking for the best locations for hydrogen production on behalf of the state, what electricity mix, what green electricity quota and what rate of connection of households to the public electricity supply these countries have, and where pilot projects for hydrogen production should start. The group also wants to know how the water needs of electrolysis plants in remote desert locations (e.g. in the Maghreb states or West Africa) should be met and what competition there is between the drinking water supply of the local population, the irrigation needs of local agriculture and, if necessary, the water needs of those dependent on ground and surface water Biotopes arise in these regions.

The minor inquiry is a request for the Federal Government's response to a minor inquiry from April of this year (BtDs 19/18834) on the same topic. In the meantime, however, the National Hydrogen Strategy was presented in June.
