(Tübingen / Nantes) – DB Energie GmbH has commissioned the French hydrogen producer Lhyfe to supply green hydrogen. For Deutsche Bahn's "H2goesRail" project, Lhyfe will construct and subsequently operate an electrolyzer from the Danish manufacturer Green Hydrogen Systems at the Tübingen site by 2024. The plant has an annual production capacity of approximately 30.000 kilograms and will be powered exclusively by electricity from renewable energy sources. The DB subsidiary is also building a hydrogen refueling station with an innovative fast-refueling system on site, in cooperation with the previously named companies Wystrach and Wenger Engineering.
Last November, Deutsche Bahn announced that Siemens would develop a regional train called the " Mireo Plus H " with a hydrogen propulsion system consisting of a fuel cell and a lithium-ion battery. The one-year trial will begin in 2024 between Tübingen, Horb, and Pforzheim on a regional line previously served by diesel locomotives. Depending on the model, the new two- or three-car train will have a range of 600 to 1.000 kilometers and is scheduled to cover 120.000 kilometers during the test. The DB Regio depot in Ulm will be expanded to handle the maintenance of the hydrogen-powered trains.
Lhyfe develops tailor-made solutions to build local production and distribution systems for green hydrogen. To this end, the company has specialized in the coupling of electrolyzers and renewable energy systems.
