(Tübingen / Nantes) – DB Energie GmbH has commissioned the French hydrogen producer Lhyfe to supply green hydrogen. Lhyfe will build and then operate an electrolyser from the Danish manufacturer Green Hydrogen Systems at the Tübingen site for Deutsche Bahn's “H2goesRail” project by 2024. The plant has an annual production capacity of around 30.000 kilograms and is supplied exclusively with electricity from renewable energies. The DB subsidiary is building a hydrogen filling station with a new type of rapid refueling on site with the previously named companies Wystrach and Wenger Engineering.

Already in November last year, Deutsche Bahn announced that Siemens wouldMireo Plus Hwill develop the regional train called “with a hydrogen drive system consisting of a fuel cell and a lithium-ion battery. The one-year test run will begin in 2024 between Tübingen, Horb and Pforzheim on a regional route previously served by diesel locomotives. Depending on the series, the new two- or three-part vehicle has a range of 600 to 1.000 kilometers and is expected to cover 120.000 kilometers for the test. The DB Regio factory in Ulm is being expanded to service hydrogen vehicles.

Lhyfe develops tailor-made solutions to build local production and distribution systems for green hydrogen. To this end, the company has specialized in the coupling of electrolyzers and renewable energy systems.
