(Stuttgart / Paris) – Daimler Truck AG and the French oil multinational Total Energies SE want to jointly develop a hydrogen infrastructure for heavy trucks in the European Union. According to the agreement, this includes “hydrogen procurement including the associated logistics, supplying hydrogen to filling stations, developing hydrogen-based trucks, building a customer base and other areas.”
Total Energies wants to operate 2030 hydrogen filling stations directly or indirectly in Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg and France by 150. As part of the cooperation, Daimler Truck will deliver hydrogen-powered fuel cell trucks to its customers in the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg and France by 2025.
“For long-distance transport, in addition to purely battery-electric trucks, we also see hydrogen-powered fuel cell trucks as CO2-neutral solutions,” said Karin Rådström, responsible for the Mercedes-Benz Trucks brand and member of the Board of Directors of Daimler Truck AG. According to Alexis Vovk, President of Marketing & Services and Member of the Board of Directors of Total Energies, his company wants to “build a multi-energy company with the ambition to achieve Net Zero by 2050.” In order to establish hydrogen in road freight transport, both companies also wanted to explore the possibilities of how to reduce the total cost of ownership of a hydrogen truck.
Daimler and BP are building hydrogen infrastructure in Great Britain
Around two weeks earlier, Daimler Truck and BP Advanced Mobility Limited had something similar Great Britain announced. The companies also want to work together to build a hydrogen infrastructure there in order to advance the decarbonization of the British freight transport network. The agreement also includes the introduction of hydrogen-powered fuel cell trucks. According to the information, BP is examining the construction and operation of 25 hydrogen filling stations by 2030. From 2025, Daimler wants to deliver hydrogen-based fuel cell trucks to British customers.
The announcements of such agreements at this time are probably no coincidence: Daimler Truck AG wants to go public on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange in December.
