The federal government expects that at least 100 hydrogen filling stations for cars will be in operation in Germany by the end of the year. Ten to 15 stations per year are planned for this year and the following year, according to the answer to a small question from the FDP parliamentary group entitled “Potential for the use of hydrogen in the transport sector” (Bundestag printed matter 19/18992; 19/17936).
A decision on further expansion could be made in 2021 depending on the vehicle ramp-up that will take place by then and the further plans of car manufacturers. “In the next few years” the topic of hydrogen infrastructure for heavy commercial vehicles is expected to become more important. Vehicle and infrastructure development projects have started. The response lists a number of research projects and market activation initiatives. A national hydrogen strategy is currently being coordinated by departments and will be published soon.
In mid-May, H2 Mobility Deutschland GmbH & Co.KG announced on the occasion of the opening of its 18th hydrogen filling station in North Rhine-Westphalia that the company plans to increase the number of its 83 H2 filling stations currently installed in Germany to 2020 by the end of 100 (we reported ).
