(Berlin) - The Federal Ministry of Transport is supporting the purchase of around 1.700 buses with alternative drives. These include 1.400 battery buses, 150 fuel cell buses, 50 trolleybuses and 100 gas buses. The federal government covers up to 80 percent of the additional costs incurred compared to conventional comparable vehicles. The associated maintenance and charging infrastructure is also supported.
Funding notices for 10 companies
So far, the KVG Kieler Verkehrsgesellschaft mbH (50 battery buses), the Stadtwerke München GmbH (71 battery buses), the Transdev GmbH Berlin (325 battery buses, 40 fuel cell buses, 110 biomethane buses), the Bremer Straßenbahn Aktiengesellschaft (50 battery buses), the city of Esslingen have received funding notices Neckar (51 battery trolleybuses), Aero Ground Flughafen München GmbH (72 battery buses), Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe (350 battery buses) and Regionalverkehr Köln GmbH (108 fuel cell buses). Notices totaling 160 million euros had previously been handed over to the transport companies Hamburger Hochbahn AG and Verkehrsbetriebe Hamburg-Holstein GmbH (VHH). According to a statement, further applications are currently being processed.
A further call for funding for the second quarter of 2022 is already being planned. The funds are allocated as part of the “Directive for the Promotion of Alternative Drives for Buses in Passenger Transport”. A total of 2024 billion euros will be available by 1,25, with further funds planned for 2025.
