(Yatala, Queensland / Australia) – Australian commercial vehicle importer and dealer BLK Auto Pty Ltd. has unveiled Australia's first commercial hydrogen-powered coach from New York-based manufacturer Hyzon Motors. The vehicle has 50 seats and a range of 700 kilometers. There are eight tanks with 26 kilograms of hydrogen and six batteries on board. According to Simon Coburn, Hyzon's head of special projects, one vehicle has already been sold to an unnamed customer. He did not want to give a specific price, saying it would depend on the individual specification.
Development began in 2019. After BLK visited several bus and fuel cell manufacturers, they chose Hyzon as the fuel cell provider. Over the next 18 months, engineers from the US, China and Australia met virtually twice a week about the design, design and construction of this bus.
Not the first order for Hyzon in Australia
However, this is not the first order for Hyzon to deliver coaches to Australia. The mining company Fortescue Metals Group has ordered ten specially built buses for use in the Christmas Creek mining area (Western Australia). These are intended to replace a fleet of diesel vehicles used to transport workers to remote mining sites. According to the company, the range on one tank of fuel is 800 kilometers. In August, a prototype completed a 15.000-kilometer test run in the harsh, remote Pilbara region.
