(Berlin/Brandenburg) – The federal states of Berlin and Brandenburg are starting an online participation process to build a hydrogen economy in the capital region. The top administrative authorities - namely the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labor and Energy of the State of Brandenburg and the Berlin Senate Department for Economic Affairs, Energy and Enterprises - would like to determine demand and supply with the help of companies, associations and municipalities.

Results are incorporated into the hydrogen roadmap

In addition to estimating needs, the focus is on questions about any existing and required infrastructure, as well as planning and projects. In addition, obstacles, hurdles and potential for improvement are addressed. According to the Berlin Senate Administration, the results will be incorporated into a roadmap for building a hydrogen economy by the summer.

The Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labor and Energy commissioned a consortium led by the Berlin Reiner Lemoine Institute (RLI) to carry out the nationwide survey. The RLI is an independent, non-profit research institute that is committed to a future with 100 percent renewable energy and has been supporting the energy and transport transition with research and contract projects for more than ten years. Other members of the consortium include Leipzig-based DBI GUT GmbH, which supports the project with engineering planning services, and Localiser RLI GmbH, which is developing software for visualizing and planning hydrogen locations in the Brandenburg / Berlin region.
