(Ingolstadt, Germany) – Bayernoil Raffineriegesellschaft mbH has signed a contract with the gas pipeline network operator Bayernets GmbH to reserve hydrogen transport capacity in the "Ingolstadt/HyPipe" H2 cluster. Connecting Bavaria to the future hydrogen network will provide "an important impetus" for the development of the regional hydrogen infrastructure. The goal is to supply the industrial sites and the region around Ingolstadt with hydrogen in the future. The companies did not disclose the reserved hydrogen quantities.

The initiative combines "the transformation of the refinery site with the development of a regional infrastructure" that will connect producers, import corridors, and industrial consumers in the future, says Philipp Kaiser, Head of Business Development at Bayernoil. The now-established contractual basis creates planning certainty and represents a decisive step forward in the development of the hydrogen infrastructure, says Matthias Jenn, Managing Director of Bayernets.
Since March, hydrogen core network operators have been offering the market the opportunity to reserve hydrogen capacity to secure supply contracts. According to Bayernets, as of July 23, 2026, nearly six gigawatts (GW) of injection and withdrawal capacity had been reserved with the company, double the figure from the last publication on May 13, 2026. In some cases, requests exceeded available capacity. Contracts for 0,6 GW of capacity have been concluded for cluster transport. Furthermore, an additional 0,5 GW of capacity has been requested and is currently under review.
