(Vancouver, Canada / Sabugo, Portugal) – Canada's Ballard Power Systems Inc. and Ireland-based technology company Fusion Fuel Green Plc have commissioned the "H2Évora" hydrogen project in Sabugo, southern Portugal. The plant consists of 15 off-grid electrolysers called “Hevo Solar”, which are intended to produce 15 tons of green hydrogen per year.

The plant features a 200-kilowatt FCwave fuel cell module from Ballard Power that can convert the green hydrogen into electricity and feed it into the power grid during peak times. Ballard Power received the order to supply the module in July last year.

However, it is a rather “modest facility” that has been “practically overtaken by some of the larger projects we have in development,” says Frederico Figueira de Chaves, co-managing director and chief financial officer at Fusion Fuel. However, H2Évora will “continue to feed emission-free electricity into the grid for many years to come.” The facility also serves “as an important testing ground for our research and development team.”

Fusion Fuels “Hevo Solar” is a hydrogen generator with a PEM electrolyzer. The integrated solar modules enable off-grid production of green hydrogen. The Company's businesses include the sale of electrolyzer technology to customers wishing to establish their own green hydrogen production, the development of turnkey hydrogen plants that Fusion Fuel owns and operates, and the sale of green hydrogen to end users under long-term offtake agreements.
