(Vancouver, Canada / Ahmedabad, India) – The Canadian Ballard Power Systems Inc., the Indian Adani Enterprises Ltd. (AEL) and the Indian commercial vehicle manufacturer Ashok Leyland want to jointly develop a fuel cell truck (FCET) for logistics and transport in mining. It is the first collaboration of this kind in Asia. The demonstration project is coordinated by AEL.
Market launch planned for 2023
The hydrogen-powered vehicle weighs 55 tons and has three hydrogen tanks. This enables a range of 120 kilometers with Ballard's 200 kilowatt PEM fuel cell technology. The FCET is scheduled to launch in India in 2023.

Ballard, manufacturer of PEM fuel cell engines, will supply the “FCmoveTM” engine while Ashok Leyland will provide the vehicle platform and technical support. Ashok Leyland is the world's fourth largest manufacturer of buses and the second largest manufacturer of commercial vehicles in India
Adani is investing $50 billion in hydrogen
The Adani Group had previously announced that it was only founded in early 2022 Adani New Industries Ltd. (ANIL) wants to invest more than 50 billion dollars (46 billion euros) in green hydrogen and associated ecosystems over the next ten years. The money can be used to build a capacity of up to three million tons of green hydrogen per year.
The truck development also serves to gain experience “in using hydrogen as a fuel for commercial fleets,” said Vinay Prakash, director of Adani Enterprises Limited and CEO of Adani Natural Resources. These are “not only a precursor to the introduction of hydrogen technology in the country’s mining and logistics sectors, but will also enable other companies to opt for long-term sustainable solutions when converting fleets in ports, airports and their industrial operations.” .
Adani Enterprises is part of multi-billionaire Gautam Adani's Indian conglomerate Adani Group and focuses on both mining and the development of green hydrogen projects for the procurement, transport and construction of hydrogen refueling infrastructure.
