(Saint-Ouen/France) – Alstom will deliver six hydrogen-powered trains to Italy. The customer FNM SpA (Ferrovie Nord Milano), a railway and transport company in the northern Italian region of Lombardy, has secured the option for an additional eight trains. According to the information, the contract value amounts to a total of 160 million euros. The first train delivery will take place within “36 months of receipt of the order”.

Made in Italy

The new hydrogen trains are based on Alstom's “Coradia Stream” platform, which is intended for the European market and is already being produced at several locations in Italy. The hydrogen-powered variant will be equipped with the same fuel cell drive technology that was already introduced with the “Coradia iLint”. Operating performance and range correspond to those of diesel trains.

The Coradia Stream trains for FNM are manufactured by Alstom in Italy. Project development, manufacturing and certification are largely carried out at the Savigliano site. The vehicle signaling systems are supplied from the Bologna location.

The Coradia iLint is already being used commercially in northern Germany. The Austrian Federal Railways have been testing an iLint in regular passenger service since September.
