(Bangalore / India) – The Indian conglomerate ACME Cleantech Solutions Pvt. Ltd. wants to build a factory to produce green hydrogen and ammonia in the southern Indian state of Karnataka. According to its own information, the company has signed a declaration of intent with the local government.

The plants, with an annual capacity of 1,2 million tonnes, are to be built in two phases by 2027. Local media mention the port city of Mangaluru as the location. According to ACME, the project also includes a solar power plant to generate environmentally friendly electricity for electrolysis. The project would create more than 2.000 jobs upon completion. The government of Karnataka has promised the ACME Group extensive support in the approval process, among other things. The investment costs are 520 billion rupees (6,27 billion euros).

Goal: “Leading provider of green ammonia”

Only in May, ACME reached an agreement with the Japanese shipping company Nippon Yūsen KK (NYK Line) to examine the extent to which it could supply customers with ammonia. The company wants to “establish itself as a leading supplier of green ammonia worldwide,” said Rajat Seksaria, managing director of the ACME Group, at the time.

In March, ACME also announced further details on plans to build a large-scale green ammonia production facility in the Sultanate Oman. The factory will be developed, built and operated as part of a joint venture with the Norwegian project developer and operator of renewable energy systems Scatec ASA. The exact schedule has not yet been determined, the companies said. However, there are already negotiations with buyers for the ammonia.
