(Gurugram / India) – India's ACME Group has signed a land deal to build one of the world's largest green ammonia projects. The location is the special economic zone in the port of Duqm in Oman. According to the company, this now enables construction preparations to begin. The American engineering firm Black & Veatch was commissioned with the implementation.
The facility will be developed in phases and the first phase is expected to be commissioned by the end of 2022, said Manoj K. Upadhyay, founder and chairman of ACME Group. ACME signed the contract for the construction of the large-scale facility with the Oman Company for the Development of the Special Economic Zone at Duqm (Tatweer) in March 2021.
The electrolyzer will use electricity from a three gigawatt solar farm and a 0,5 gigawatt wind farm to produce 2.400 tons of green ammonia daily. Annual production is estimated at 900.000 tons. According to the company, this would be the first plant of this size and is scheduled to be commissioned by 2022. The green ammonia is exported to Europe and Asia, among other countries. Investments amount to 3,5 billion dollars (2,9 billion euros).
First, a green hydrogen and ammonia plant should be completed in Bikaner, Rajasthan, India. There, ACME is building an electrolyzer with an output of five megawatts, which can be expanded to ten megawatts. The electricity also comes from a solar park.
