Berlin. According to data from the Federal Network Agency, an energy equivalent of two gigawatt hours was fed into the gas network in 2017 and around 2018 gigawatt hours in 1,4 as green hydrogen, generated using electricity from renewable energies. This is what the federal government writes in its answer to a minor question from the FDP parliamentary group (Bundestag printed matter 19/21246; 19/20997). For 2018, an additional amount of 1,1 gigawatt hours of synthetically produced methane was recorded using hydrogen produced by electrolysis. The federal government has no information about the use of the gases. The overall use of renewable hydrogen could be higher through decentralized storage and use, the answer continues.
The production of “blue hydrogen, the production of which is coupled with a CO2 capture and storage process, was not possible under the legal framework of the Carbon Dioxide Storage Act in the requested period and is not taking place. With regard to synthetic kerosene, there is still no reliable data on the exact quantities, as the technology for producing these fuels is still in the demonstration stage. From the federal government's perspective, only green hydrogen is sustainable in the long term.
