(Schindellegi / Switzerland) – The internationally active logistics company Kühne + Nagel International AG is transporting 190 wind turbines (WEA) and 67 tower sets to the new Neom special economic zone in Saudi Arabia. The special transport has a volume of 1,4 million tons; the team involved consists of more than 100 experts in the areas of logistics and ship freighting as well as drivers and fitters. A dedicated office was set up in the Saudi Arabian city of Tabuk to coordinate the teams at Neom Port and the wind farm site. According to the Swiss-based company, the transport is expected to be completed in 2025.

The client for the major project is the Chinese wind turbine manufacturer Envision Energy. As reported, in June the US supplier of industrial gases Air Products was awarded the contract to supply the numerous 6,5 megawatt systems, which will begin operations by 2026. The installed capacity of the wind farm will be 1,67 gigawatts when completed. The green electricity then produced is used to produce green hydrogen by the Neom Green Hydrogen Company, in which Air Products has a stake. Once the electrolysers are completed, Air Products will take over the entire yield of a forecast 600 tons per day.
Neom (“new future”) is a special economic zone in northwestern Saudi Arabia and is currently being planned and built at an estimated cost of $500 billion. The Red Sea area will one day become a model for sustainable urban living, powered entirely by renewable energy.
